Exploring for a Sri Lankan research identity

When I joined the Gaveshana team in 2007 as the newly appointed deputy editor, I had already convinced myself of two things. I strongly believed that this is not another science journal, but a unique research journal, aimed at building an overarching research culture in Sri Lanka, and I was very determined to make that aim a success. I set about that task with the usual tenacity, advised by the chief editor and the senior editorial board, and aided by the gaveshana team, made of budding journalists and enthusiasts. Looking back, I may have ruffled few feathers, changed conventional thinking and driven myself and everyone else relentlessly for improvement. But, at this juncture, when we can proudly say we have published for a decade, without dedicated funding and with a team of on-the-job-learning staff, a simple word comes to the mind, Joy. It has been a tough journey, but it has been a joyous journey of dedication from ‘Gaveshana’.
